Chiropractic kid attempts the impossible….

2010 June 21

….eating something bigger than her head!  My daughter Sophia and I had lunch a couple of Sundays ago with my Mom who is visiting from Nebraska.  We went to The Nines restaurant in Brentwood and got to eat outside on a GORGEOUS Sunday afternoon.  I encouraged Sophia to try something from the ‘regular’ menu instead of the child’s menu – those menus have the same things, all the time and the items are generally not the best food choices for kids.  So, she picked nachos, an appetizer, off the “grown-up menu” and this is what she got:

Chiro kid eats Nachos

That plate of nachos was bigger than her whole head!  She probably ate a dozen chips, was full and was off to search for fish in the pond.  It made us laugh and I appreciated a few of her ‘leftovers’!

Please note:  the sparkle in her eyes!   That sparkle is often found in the eyes of chiropractic kids.  Kids that are adjusted on a regular basis just possess a sparkle, a glimmer, a light that is something else.  Sophia received her first chiropractic adjustment when she was 20 minutes old.  Yes, you read that correctly.  She was 20 minutes old and my chiropractor, Dr. Heidi Keller (LifeForce Family Chiropractic, San Anselmo, CA) was at her birth to assist and adjust me….and to adjust our sweet newborn.   Sophia loves getting adjusted and asks me to check her on a regular basis. Chiropractic kids may not always know how it is that adjustments make their eyes brighter but they DO know that they like getting adjusted, it feels great and that it’s good for them.  I bet your kid wants to be a chiropractic kid!   Just let me know…   : )

Brentwood CA Farmer’s Market Starts Saturday April 10th

2010 April 8

The Farmer’s Market starts this Saturday in Brentwood!  It is one of favorite events in Brentwood.   It is located downtown, the block in front of the theatre from 8:00 to 12:00.  This time of year is GREAT because it’s not hot yet.  This is the first market for the local farmers this year so you can be sure they will bring lots of healthy produce for you and your families to enjoy!

You never know what you might find at the Farmer’s Market besides the farmers:  flowers, chocolate, food, music, friends and this friendly local family chiropractor!  Come say hello and if you’re not currently part of my practice, Essential Care Chiropractic, I will do a quick spinal evaluation for FREE!

I had a great time last Saturday at the Businesses of Brentwood Expo!  I see so many people I know – friends, business owners and current members of my practice, Essential Care Chiropractic.  One of the best parts of the day is meeting new people that live in Brentwood and sharing the health benefits of chiropractic.  Check out one of my new friends:

Brentwood Chiropractor Loves Taking Care of Children!

2010 March 21

Parents always ask me “why should my kids see a chiropractor?  They fall, bounce back up and just continue playing!  And, they hardly EVER complain that anything hurts.”  They often don’t.  Children are excited about life, resilient and usually don’t carry around the stress that we grownups do.  They are flexible, happy and their ‘normal’ days are about being in ‘constant motion’.

In chiropractic, we believe that motion is life.  Makes sense doesn’t it?  The more we move around, the more active we are, the more alert and involved we are, the more “life” we have in our life.  The average child falls 2000 times before the age of 4, so the possibility that the motion in their spines is diminished is highly likely.

They accommodate, they find a way to work around a small spinal subluxation, they keep on going with few or most likely, no symptoms.  But over time, all these “typical” childhood falls contribute to a repetitive stress disorder.  The majority of adults that arrive in a chiropractor’s office do so not because of a recent trauma but because of a repetitive stress disorder – doing a fairly ‘normal’ activity over and over and over and over again with a spine that is not functioning or moving at 100%.

This lack of function CAN and often DOES begin decades earlier.  There were no symptoms in the beginning but over time, the activities that are performed on regular basis, things we take for granted ( like picking up a small baby, putting on shoes or gardening ) become increasingly difficult and then often painful.

As a parent, I want to do whatever I can so that my children don’t make the same mistakes I did.  I didn’t become committed to chiropractic care until I was nearly 30 years old.  I feel pretty fabulous at 50…it does occur to me how much more wonderful I might feel if I had been adjusted as a child.

A healthy, moving, functioning spine contributes to great posture, decreased chance of scoliosis, a child that sleeps better, a happier child – a child that is healthier.   Have your child checked by a chiropractor that adores children – in Brentwood ( northern California ), that would be me!  Make it part of your child’s “well-baby” checkups – after all motion is life…give your child as much life as they can possibly handle!
